Korean Hair Services, Explained

Digital perm basics

A digital perm uses heat-assisted rods and a chemical process to create lasting bends or curls. At RT7, the exact technique depends on hair condition, desired curl pattern and how you normally style.

A digital perm combines a perm solution with temperature-controlled rods. It is often chosen for soft C-curls, S-waves or movement that becomes more visible as the hair dries. Suitability depends on length, density, previous chemical services and current condition.

A traditional cold perm generally develops without heated rods and can create curl that is visible when wet. A digital perm uses heat-assisted rods and is often selected for softer, styled-looking movement when dry. Neither is automatically better; the right option depends on the finish you want and what your hair can safely support.

RT7’s current full digital perm price starts at $250. Setting perm starts at $280, and combined magic straight plus digital perm starts at $350. Final pricing can vary with hair length, density, condition, product use and the exact plan. A consultation confirms the service and price.

There is no single timeline for every client. Curl pattern gradually relaxes as the hair grows and is affected by length, condition, home care, heat styling and the strength of the original pattern. Your stylist can explain what to expect for your specific plan.

Follow the timing your stylist gives you at the appointment because formulas and services differ. Avoid assuming a universal rule from social media; your stylist’s instructions should match the process used on your hair.

Shape first. Movement second.

“Shadow perm” is a style reference commonly used for soft, diffused movement and volume rather than a tight, uniform curl. The final look depends on the haircut, rod placement, hair length and daily styling. Bring reference photos so your stylist can identify the exact movement you mean.

A down perm is used to help resistant side or perimeter hair sit closer to the head. RT7 lists side down perm from $40 and whole down perm from $80. It can be planned on its own or alongside a haircut or texture service when appropriate.

Yes—the desired style needs enough length in the correct areas to wrap or shape. Very short sections may not support the reference look. A consultation or clear current-hair photos can help determine whether to perm now or grow specific areas first.

Chemical history changes the plan.

It depends on the formulas, desired result, previous services and hair condition. Bleached or repeatedly processed hair may need a different sequence, more time between services or an alternate plan. Disclose your full chemical history before either appointment.

Korean magic straightening is selected for a straighter transformation, while keratin smoothing is generally chosen to reduce frizz and improve manageability without the same goal of pin-straight structure. Results and suitability vary; consultation is essential, especially on highlighted, bleached or previously straightened hair.

Color cost is shaped by starting level, previous artificial pigment, length, density, desired tone, number of processes and product required. A root maintenance appointment is very different from a large lightening or corrective change, even when the reference images look similar.

Bring two or three reference images, a photo of your hair in natural light if helpful, your recent chemical-service history, and an honest description of your daily styling time. Also show examples you do not want; they can clarify the goal quickly.
